For those of you who like more strenuous activity than walking, tennis and swimming we have listed below some of the activities available locally.

Golf:

There are several golf clubs in the area for all players. Below are some to look for.

Zorbing:

Just east of Dorchester is the only place in the south to try this extreme sport that has come from New Zealand.

Clay Pigeon Shooting:

Southern Counties Shooting Ground offer a wide range of clay shooting, tuition for those with experience and those with none at all.

Quad Biking:

Dorset Quad Biking takes you trekking across miles of beautiful countryside trails. Min age: 18yrs. 6 riders per trip. Approx 2 hrs (£45-£50 per person).

Henley Hillbillies offer quad biking along with mini mavriks, hovercraft and archery and crossbows and clay shooting.

High Ropes - Go Ape:

Described as 3 hrs of adrenalin fuelled fun, laughter and adventure, it is a high wire forest adventure course of ropes, bridges, swings and zip slides. Hugely popular. Based at Moors Valley Country Park where anyone not taking part will be easily amused for the duration. Min age 10 (10-18yr old must be accompanied).

Sailing:

Sail Laser based at National Sailing Academy at Portland, where the Olympic sailing events will take place. Sail Laser run a variety of courses on a selection of boats, you can make up your own group and book an instructor or join in on their sessions. Not between October half-term and Easter.

Deep Sea Fishing:

The Tourist Office can give you the names of recommended people from Weymouth, Lyme Regis or West Bay should you wish to arrange a trip.

Riding Centres:

Pound Cottage: Amy at Pound Cottage has a selection of horses and ponies for all standards of rider. She has an indoor and outdoor school for giving lessons whatever the weather and also offers hacks in the surrounding area. Ring her to discuss your needs. She is about 20 mins from Dove House and very helpful.

Remstone Stables: Remstone is a little further away in the wonderful area of Purbeck, and offers extensive hacking for all ages and abilities (you can have a lesson as you hack) or for the more experienced a three hour ride to the beach (outside summer season) which would be well worth the distance. There is plenty for others to do in the area if they do not want to ride.

Cycling:

There are many cycle paths in Dorset and you can connect to one from Dove House without going on the roads. If you do not bring your own bikes they can be hired from Dorchester Cycles.
